This essay discusses one of the most famous rape cases that rattled the entire world and a brief review of attitudes towards victims and perpetrators.The Suryanelli rape case in India is one of the highest-profile cases that enthralled the world. The sex scandal refers to a case of subsequent rape and kidnapping of a 16year school girl from Suryanelli, India, in 1996. The underage girl was enticed with the assurance of marriage and then kidnapped. She was purportedly raped by 37 of the 42 suspects for 41 days. The case was afterward politicized due to then-upcoming general elections, hence the reason why the world came to know about the case. In September 2000, The special court of India found 25 of the 39 those facing trial to be guilty of several charges. The prime suspect named Dharmarajan was found guilty and condemned to life in prison. However, he left Jail and then disappeared due to the lack of evidence validating the victim’s statement. The court found her to be deceitful.Dharmarajan was an advocate in the high courts of India. Before committing the heinous act, he was a significant individual in society held in high regard. According to psychological reports, Dharmaralajan had narcissist tendencies and feelings of hostility towards women. These negative traits led him to commit rape, according to the doctors. The prosecutors report states that the victim fell in love with the suspect and had pledged her gold ornaments and marriage. Instead, he took her to a hotel, where she was raped repeatedly.The Suryanelli rape case and the acquittal of the main suspect portray how we live in a corrupted society. It is interesting to speculate why moral misconduct that affects the structure attracts receptiveness and arouses particular exasperation with rape. Somehow, when an individual is suspected of a sexual crime, mainly if the man is influential and the female appears to be undermining the masculine power system, there are long and loud cries about the assumption of innocence and the public prosecutor’s high burden of evidence. These shouts may even endeavor to assert the deep satire that the suspect is the real victim. Possibly this is because numerous financially powerful males cannot envision themselves indicted for rape. Hence, the main suspect in the Suryanelli case is at large while his co-accused are languishing in Jail. The main suspect had a strong connection with the judicial system due to his past career as a high court advocate.Additionally, it is evident that for those blamed for rape, the effects are likely to be overwhelming. When the criminal process deals with the grievances and ends in acquittals or resolutions by the law court to end proceedings, substantial damage may be done to purported culprits in situations where they are found blameless. The suspects and their relatives agonize deeply from the hatred and stigma linked with sexual abuse, the deprivations during investigations, and the ultimate mistrust that is likely to follow. Even when the allegations do not end up on the prosecutors desk, they will have lifelong effects on the accused. And may lead to suspension from work and provisional constraints on contact with children. For cases that lead to a guilty ruling, the sentence will be a long period of incarceration. When perpetrators stress their innocence, there will be additional barriers and deprivations against bail and privileges.
